Steamboat Gulch is a beloved historical sledding and tubing hill located just three minutes outside Idaho City. For generations, this hill has drawn families and friends together for days of sledding, tubing, gathering around campfires, sharing meals, and making joyful memories. Known as one of Idaho City’s main winter attractions, Steamboat Gulch has provided a unique place for people to embrace the winter season and create traditions that have lasted through the years.

Thanks to Tim Hurlbut, owner of the Smokejumper Tiny Home Resort and Sarsaparilla Ice Cream Parlor, and local entrepreneur Carter Elliott, Steamboat Gulch will reopen for the 2024 season and beyond. Together, we secured a new lease with the Idaho Department of Lands, acquired the necessary licenses, and have been working hard to prepare for a season filled with safe and memorable sledding experiences.

We’re excited to offer this cherished spot to our community once again. Steamboat Gulch’s hill access will be free for guests staying at the Smokejumper Tiny Home Resort, and we’re introducing convenient food, drink, and ice cream delivery from Sarsaparilla Ice Cream Parlor to the hill on an hourly basis. Supporting local businesses and giving back to Idaho City is central to our mission, and we’re proud to create a winter gathering place that benefits the entire community.
This season, Steamboat Gulch will operate Friday through Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. During the two weeks of Christmas break, we’ll open 7 days a week, offering families and visitors extended time to enjoy everything the hill has to offer.
We look forward to welcoming you to Steamboat Gulch and sharing in the winter adventure. Thank you for being part of this story, and we hope to see you on the hill soon!
